The Carl M. Freeman Companies to Sell the Historic Tidewater Inn

The Carl M. Freeman Companies, proud redevelopers of the Historic Tidewater Inn and Restaurant Local in Easton, MD announce today that they intend to place this hotel and restaurant property on the market for sale. The Historic Tidewater Inn is a significant part of the Talbot County landscape and the Freeman Companies have invested over $8 million in its restoration and returning it to its standing as a proud landmark in the local community.

The Freeman Companies purchased the Tidewater Inn in 2005 and began a renovation process carefully intended to ensure that much of the authentic style, architecture and craftsmanship of the Inn would be maintained. Improvements at the hotel also included the addition of Restaurant Local, a new exceptional dining option that was the vision of world class Chef Richard Hamilton. The casually chic and contemporary restaurant features local seasonal ingredients and seafood in its menu selections that change seasonally and boasts an extensive wine cellar with over 1500 vintages. In addition, to allow the Historic Tidewater Inn to better serve their guests’ needs, guest rooms, suites and meeting spaces have been upgraded to include modern conveniences and technology.

As a result of the Freeman Companies’ efforts, the hotel was designated one of the Historic Hotels of America by the National Historic Trust in October 2006 and most recently was recognized by the U.S. National Park Services as a Registered National Historic Place.

Restoration of the Inn has also earned the Freeman Companies the Maryland Hotel and Motel Association 2007 Tourism Impact Award. The Impact Award is given to recognize a business or individual that has had a major impact on the tourism industry in Maryland in the past year.

“The restoration of this beautiful and nostalgic Inn has been a real labor of love for us at the Freeman Companies,” said Frank Edwards, President of the Carl M. Freeman Companies. “We have thoroughly enjoyed being associated with this fine landmark and greatly appreciate the support we have received from the local and state officials and the entire community”, he continued. “As primarily real estate developers and redevelopers we are proud to offer this restored property and the expertise of its quality staff to new prospective owners – in the hopes that the next owner will bring their special talents in the area of quality continuing hospitality operations that this Inn and its community deserve.”
